Newport, Wales, United Kingdom, 2 May 2023 – Spirit of Wales Distillery contract distilling partners win silver medals for their SWYD Vodka and new Pimp Gin. The London Spirits Competition 2023, hosted by the Beverage Trade Network, seeks to recognise, reward, and promote the world’s best spirits brands that have successfully connected with their consumers.
In April 2023, The Beverage Trade Network announced the winners of The London International Spirits Competition, which highlights spirit brands consumers and trade buyers want to purchase. The competition had a record number of entries, 303 from the United Kingdom, with gin making up the largest beverage category. Spirits judging is based on three criteria:, quality, value for money and packaging, with two contract distilling brands winning silver medals.
Having had success with its award-winning Steeltown and Dragon’s Breath brands, Spirit of Wales Distillery has expanded its offering to open doors for spirits enthusiasts who want to distil and sell their handcrafted gin, vodka, or rum. One of them, Matt Pritchard and his team at award-winning Cardiff-based SWYD Tattoo & Barbers, approached the Welsh distillery to produce and bottle an anthracite-filtered SWYD Vodka. The team ended 2022 with a bang as all 100 bottles sold out and then awarded a silver medal with a score of 83 points from the London Spirits Competition in 2023.
In their newest contract distilling venture, Spirit of Wales assisted Pimp Gin with a new gin recipe from scratch and then bottled the shiny purple passion fruit-infused, magically purple Pimp Gin. The London Spirits Competition awarded the passion-filled gin and received 88 points and a silver medal. Keep an eye on Pimp Gin’s Instagram page for the official launch. These are examples of how Spirit of Wales Distillery has helped its business-to-business clients set themselves apart through brand extensions in the past six months. The distillery offers white-label recipe bottling and branding for bespoke gin, vodka, or rum creations from the creative to the functional.
Previously in collaboration with AO Brewing, Spirit of Wales crafted a golden rum to mark the 20th Anniversary of the discovery of the Newport Medieval Ship in 2002 and delicious Pembrokeshire Apple Spiced Rum, among others. In the upcoming months, the Welsh Distillery plans to launch a special edition Hughesovka Craft Vodka using their traditional Ukraine wheat recipe alongside Museum Wales to raise funds for those in need.
