Sony UK Technology Centre Pencoed was established in 1992. The site has significantly diversified its operations in recent years and now offers a range of Manufacturing activities and services to both Sony and 3rd party clients.
Additionally the site houses the Digital Technium satellite unit of Swansea University, The Technuim Digital @ Sony.
The site is home to the Sony Broadcast & Professional Camera Division which manufactures the complete range of Sony Cameras and Camera Systems for world wide distribution. The Division recently commenced the manufacture of the new state of the art High Definition format Camera models and is one of only two Sony B&P camera manufacturing facilities world wide, the other being in Kosai Japan.
This Division is the Core business at Pencoed and is key to the long term sustainability of the site.
Within the Division there is a design and development capability. The division is self sufficient in terms of engineering know-how, procurement, supplier development and quality assurance in addition to customer support and service. 4K cinema projectors is a recent addition to the product portfolio reinforcing the high technology capability of the highly skilled and dedicated employees.
The Technology Centre also offers a Sub Contract Manufacturing Service (SMS) which is complemented by a BEAB accredited independent Approvals Laboratory.
Dedicated to supporting 3rd party clients and building long term manufacturing partnerships on an OEM basis the list of partners includes as examples, Tvonics (Digital set top box Manufacture), Solar Century (Photovoltaic and Thermal tile Assembly), Ubiquisys (Zonegate 3G home device manufacture), CyDen (Electronic health & beauty product manufacture).
A complete manufacturing solution is offered from design for manufacture, material procurement, PWB manufacture through to assembly and world wide distribution.
The Pencoed facility also provides a Customer Service like no other, comprising of a Customer Technical Information Centre, not a call centre but a call area manned by call handlers and engineers who capable of handling calls regarding complex product connectivity issues as well as calls for repair assistance which is then coordinated from start to finish.
The second level of customer support is a Service and Repair Centre. Based on the site there are complete work shop facilities and technicians specially trained to handle the effective repair of ALL Sony products irrespective of category. There is also a Regional Service Repair Outlet on the site where customers can bring their products directly to the site for repair. A coffee break repair is offered when ever possible, the customer waits in a waiting room and an immediate repair is affected in the time the customer takes to drink a cup of coffee.
